Microsoft has just announced the end of support and updates for Dynamics GP: September 2029.
There will be a ton of activities to follow this communication. Microsoft Partners communicating with clients. Competing software increasing advertising to change platforms. Customers beginning or continuing plans to move to another solution. ISVs continuing to evaluate and develop solutions. And so much more…
Personally, I’m confident that I can help every one of our current clients, and also many more that I haven’t met yet, move from GP to Business Central. I’m confident that me and my team can help do this in the most effective way possible. I’m also confident that I can continue to support GP until September 2029, and beyond if needed even if not recommended.
In this blog however, I’m pausing those plans to share some thoughts and initial reactions about this announcement.
My initial reaction is actually that I’m somewhat relieved to have a timeline. Nearly everyone has been guessing that this was coming at some point but also didn’t have any idea of the “if” or “when”. Now we have a timeline with plenty of time for everyone to thoroughly plan their next steps.
My next thoughts go to the GP Community. Yes I capitalize that phrase – because it identifies a group of people that have become professional friends – or just friends. There is no set group but rather the ever changing network of people supporting each other, and also a software, where the phrase a rising tide lifts all ships couldn’t be any more true. Many of these people have begun to support other solutions like I have in addition to GP, but the community has helped me meet new people, further my career, meet a presidential candidate, and provide so many memories that I can’t count but makes me smile while writing this paragraph.
There is a small sad spot in the reaction, mostly because I know companies and people are currently prospering with GP and didn’t want this time to come. But for me, I’m confident with the path forward and with continued support they can get the same results and more from Business Central going forward.
Now I’m ready for all the conversations and work that follows this announcement, but I also hope others can feel the appreciation to a software, and especially the GP Community, that has help to shape our professional and personal lives over these past years while looking forward to a bright future ahead.
For those who are looking for help with planning and a move from GP to BC, please reach out to me for assistance. Or if right now that’s a reminiscing or counseling session I’m here too. 😊 I look forward to continued connections and success in the future.
